Step 1: Access the Wise Website
The first thing you need to do is access the official Wise website. Open your preferred web browser and go to:
Step 4: Enter your Personal Data
Complete the registration form with your personal details, including your full name, email address and a secure password.
You will be asked to enter your country of residence, in this case we have entered the Dominican Republic.
One of the most important points for the security of your account is to verify it with a valid phone number.
This will result in you receiving a 6-digit code directly to your cell phone via SMS.
You will then need to set a password that combines upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters to increase the security of your account.
With these steps your account has been registered correctly but there is more to do…
On the next screen you will see how it allows you to send money internationally, but what you should do here is click on the x at the top right, since for the moment we are not interested in this option.
Step 5: Identity Verification
Wise requires you to verify your identity. Follow the instructions provided on the website to complete this step. This may include providing a copy of your ID document and answering some security questions.
In the dashboard that you will see below, you will find a selection menu on the left where you will have to click on Manage.
If the Manage your account section appears blank as in the example, what you should do is open an incognito window.
When you do this, you will likely be asked to verify your inbox with an email confirming your email address.
Now that you're logged in as an incognito user, click the Manage button again in the menu on the left.
Step 6: Add Bank Details
To use Wise, you'll need to add your bank account details. This will allow you to transfer money to and from your Wise account. Add the required banking information by following the instructions provided.
Then press the Balance Data button and choose again the type of account you need, in this case Personal Account.
Wise needs to know more information about you, so you will need to fill out a form with your full name, surname, date of birth and country of residence.
You will then be asked to choose a currency for your balance data, here you will need to select USD or US or United States.
If the next screen displays a message saying “Unfortunately this option is not available where you have registered” you just need to go to your profile and the Details button at the top right under your name in your Wise account.
In this section you must enter an address in the United States or Spain, which may be that of a family member or friend, or even a courier company.
Now you can manage your account and when you do so you will see several options:
- Balance sheet data
- Automatic conversions
- Direct debit payments
Among others
You just need to go to Balance Data and there select US Dollar as the primary currency and follow the process.
It is important to accept Wise’s terms and conditions by clicking on the “I agree” button.
You must complete the information below to obtain your balance information, which means you will have to make a payment of $20 using your credit or debit card and verify your identity with your ID card.
Please note that you must respond appropriately at each step. For example, the correct option is to indicate that you are not a US citizen and do not have a SSN or ITIN.
Then, using your cell phone, start and finish the identity verification process. Remember that you must select the document, take photos of both sides and a selfie. Don't forget that you have to be in a well-lit place, without reflections, without shadows and with a good frame.
Step 7: Verify your Bank Account
Wise may need to verify ownership of your bank account. This is done by making a small transaction on your account, which you then need to confirm in your Wise account. This ensures that only you have access to your linked bank account.
Use a debit or credit card for this $20 transaction. You can only use your own card, never someone else's.
If the transaction is declined, please contact your bank to enable the payment.
You will then receive an email with the good news that your identity has been confirmed using the documents you submitted.
Congratulations! You have successfully completed the registration process on Wise and are ready to take advantage of all the benefits of this international money transfer platform. Always remember to keep your login details safe and follow online security best practices when making financial transactions.
